Lamb Plushie
I created this plushie using a the Vintage inspired Lamb sewing pattern created by 10x2 Studio which you can find here. When I stumbled across this pattern I just had to make it. Not only is it adorable, but my sister is also expecting a baby soon so I thought this would make the perfect present.
I also already had the perfect fabric in my stash that made me think of lamb's wool so this became a good stash busting project. Although I normally think of a lamb being white or cream, I do like the light brown variant i created, it feels more unique.
For the pink fabric used in the lambs ear, I actually used the wrong side of a minky-type fabric (since the right side had the minky cut into a "quilted" diamond pattern) also from my stash.
Now, I am aware that the safety eyes I used may not be new-born baby safe, but since the lamb can stand upright on it's own I imagine that it can just sit on a shelf or dresser in the baby's room until the baby is old enough to play with it. For now it can just be a bedroom friend, keeping watch.
I did consider the security of the ribbon though. In order to try and keep that perfect bow size, I tied a normal bow and then took several stitches through the knot in matching thread to stop it from being untied.
In terms of actually sewing, I opted to handsew the whole plushie becasue #1 I honestly thought it would be easier to manage with all the tricky angles and small seam allowances, and #2 then I could put more love into the plushie. I also used a backsitch for every seam to make the seams stronger. In the end, it took around 2 weeks of handsewing for a few hours each evening to complete.
The pattern itself was excellent to follow with lot's of pictures for every single step. And I was so glad that I was not catfished or scammed by the pattern (I always worry about when trying a new pattern brand especially with all the AI slop out there now). But thankfully this pattern was real, and I think my plushie turned out very close to the product photo. This creator has made many other cute animal plush dolls that come with adorable dress-up clothes, so I will probably eventually come back to try some of their other patterns in the future.
